Friends of Juan Diego Flórez

In 2011, in his native country, Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez founded Sinfonía por el Perú, an inclusive social project which supports children and youths from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Inspired by the Venezuelan project El Sistema, the project o ers children and adolescents the oppor- tunity to take part in orchestras and choirs where they learn music and experience a social order on a small scale: they learn to listen, to support each other, and to work together towards a target.

Currently, over 2000 children are bene ting from this initiative in the 15 centres in Peru. rough music, they develop a set of values and habits, and they change their outlook on, and attitude towards, life. e stigma of poverty recedes because music has enriched their lives spiritually and elevated the positive perception of themselves. eir academic performance and social skills automatically improve and this pervades both their families and their personal environment.

Juan Diego Flórez is also particularly interested in promoting young, talented musicians from all over the world and in inspiring them to contribute to
a social change in their lives through their art. One of his dreams is to establish a music academy, where singers and instrumentalists can receive the necessary nancial help and support to further develop their career.

Together with Juan Diego, the Friends association shares the objective of enhancing the lives of young people through music, and in supporting it in it.
