Landeszeughaus

Das international berühmte Grazer Landeszeughaus wurde zwischen 1642 und 1644 von den steirischen Landständen erbaut und war einst das wichtigste Rüsthaus im Südosten des Habsburger-Reiches. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurden zum Schutz des Landes in erster Linie Rüststücke für einfache Fuß- und Reitsoldaten eingelagert. Bereits Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts ist das Landeszeughaus militärisch bedeutungslos geworden. Noch heute fasziniert die größte historische Waffenkammer der Welt mit seiner einzigartigen Atmosphäre. Die dicht gedrängte Aufstellung der rund 32.000 Kriegsgeräte (z. b. Harnische, Panzerhemden, Helme, div. Waffen) in vier Stockwerken folgt im Wesentlichen dem ursprünglichen Erscheinungsbild.


The internationally renowned Styrian Armoury in Graz was built by the Styrian Provincial Diet between 1642 and 1644, and was once the most important arsenal in the South East of the Habsburg Empire. In the 17th century primarily arms for simple foot soldiers and cavalry were stored for the protection of the state. Already in the mid-18th century the Styrian Armoury has become meaningless in military terms. Today what fascinates is the largest historical armoury in the world with its unique atmosphere. The densely crowded arrangement of around 32,000 items of war material (e.g. suits of armour, coats of mail, helmets, various weapons) over four floors basically follows the original layout of the armoury.
