Ferrara, City of the Renaissance, UNESCO World Heritage
An extraordinary town, where the charm and the atmosphere of its glorious past are fully conserved, blending in harmony with the modern cultural and economic activity.
Ferrara was an important medieval center and one of the most sumptuous courts of the Renaissance. The age of splendor of the House of Este has left indelible signs everywhere: in the colossal Addizione Erculea urban project, in the Este Castle residence, and in the development of arts, such as the impressive pictorial cycles belonging to the Quattrocento and Cinquecento and including the Last Judgment by Bastianino. Since 1995, UNESCO has included the historical center of Ferrara in the list of World Cultural Heritages as a “wonderful example of a town planned in the Renaissance and still keeping its historical centre intact”. With the intricacies of its medieval streets, the wide renaissance boulevards and its countless palaces, churches, museums and art works Ferrara is a human scale people-oriented town where to walk or bike quietly, day and night, going at each step through the magic atmosphere of the past.
