Sophies Welt Media

I collected things I found beautiful since I can remember, using my little camera. As time passed I happened to become a film maker, that found a passion in capturing the essence of the moment through doumentation. In that sense I realized two middle length documentaries: Seeds Of Change (2013, Austria/Bolivia) and Kalapa (in post-production, Austria/Colombia), both on models of how to live together in the spirit of collaboration.
Even though the most important things one learns outside of institutions, the combination of education in design and art gave me a good base in creation. I graduated my bachelors in 'information design' at FH Joanneum Graz in 2013 and continued with a media master at art university of Linz. I learned how to translate my own ideas into projects, for instance by developing a web platform that shares rememberings as a tesis project, but also by offering professional media production and documentation to different companies.
In Berlin I accidentally discovered my passion of festival work. While working for an assosiation for filmmakers as an intership, I got aligned with a special kind of cinema culture, namely Kinokabarets. Bringing together international actors and filmmakers from amateur to professional for a couple of days, we organized participatory festivals for independant film making. Back in Austria I wanted to continue this philosophy of collective creativity and initiated similar platforms in two cities in Austria. In 2013 KinoCuntra Graz and two years later Kinophilia in Linz.
Culture work, documentation and creation, became since then the three professions I am juggleing with in my daily life, trying to keep a healthy balance between doing what my inner voice tells me to do, and making a living.
Currently I am part of the multimedia project City Games [Vienna] being member of the Creative Collective White Rabbit, with our studio in Pramergasse, 1090 Vienna, where we work on designing playfullness for the city.
